One of our core values is Relational Hospitality. This challenges us to practice hospitality and build relationships in a culture that highly values individuality and personal autonomy. Rosaria Butterfield, author of The Gospel Comes with a House Key, has learned the value of Christian hospitality as a way to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. This spring we will be gathering on Wednesday evenings to read and discuss her book on the subject. Each evening will begin with Evening Prayer (bring your Books of Common Prayer) at 6:00 p.m. and continue with reading and discussion at 6:30-7:30 p.m. Bring your own dinner. Childcare will not be provided.

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday marks the first Sunday of the Lenten season. Join us for this special day that reminds us of our mortality and need for constant repentance.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
The word “shrove” means to hear a confession. The eve of Ash Wednesday is known as Shrove Tuesday (aka. Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras). It officially ends the Epiphany season and prepares us for the season of Lent. It is an occasion to clear out our pantries of rich foods from which we will be fasting during the penitential season. From this practice developed a traditional pancake supper. You are invited to join us for a come-and-go pancake feast with our friends at Forest Heights United Methodist Church from 5-7 on February 13th. Bring friends and get full!
Newcomers Dinner
We’d love to get to know you! Join us for our newcomers dinner and fellowship to learn a bit more about Mission Saint James and Anglicanism. Please RSVP to ben@stjamesjackson.org, or talk to Ben or Janie tonight.
House Blessing
House Blessings are a longtime tradition of the church. Typically, but not exclusively, house blessings occur during the season of Epiphany as a commemoration of the wise men blessing the home of Jesus in their famous visit. As the Magi visited the home of Jesus, so we also visit the homes of one another during the season of Epiphany. Join us and Fr. Ben Williams as we gather in the homes of St. James parishioners to bless and pray over every room. RSVP to Fr. Ben within 5 days of each blessing. This week, we’ll bless the King and Welborn homes.
Instructed Eucharist
A lot is going on in an Anglican worship service. What does it all mean? Join us for an Instructed Eucharist on January 28. This special service will walk through the elements of the Anglican liturgy, occasionally pausing to explain why we worship the way we do. This is an excellent opportunity to invite friends and neighbors who may be curious about the Anglican Way.

Lessons & Carols
Join us for a traditional lessons and carols service at Hub City Brewing on Christmas Eve. This service consists of 9 lessons, or readings, that tell the story of Jesus’ coming from Genesis to John. Each lesson is followed by a traditional Christmas carol. Lessons and Carols is open to the Jackson community and will be fun for the whole family. Bring a friend, have a drink, sing along, and hear the old story anew.
Anglicanism 101: Worship
Anglicans at worship follow a liturgy, which is an ancient order for Christian worship services. This week’s class will focus on what goes on in the Sunday service. Come with questions about rituals, rites, and all the standing and bowing. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you haven’t already, register below to receive updates and more details.
Anglicanism 101: Sacraments (Copy)
Who is Mission Saint James? What is the mission and what is the process of joining it? This final class in the Anglicanism 101 will focus on what it means to be on mission with Mission Saint James. We will cover an overview of our mission, vision, and values. Also covered will be our membership process and opportunities to volunteer. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you haven’t already, register below to receive updates and more details.
Blessing of the Animals
God loves animals and so did St. Francis of Assisi. Mission Saint James will hold a brief Blessing of the Animals service next to the downtown dog park to honor St. Francis on his feast day. All animals are welcome and will be blessed. Invite your friends and join us at 6:00 p.m.
Anglicanism 101: Polity
Bishops, priests, and deacons. These are the three historic offices of the church and are the foundation of Anglican polity. What is the relationship between the three and how is this global communion structured? These are the main questions we’ll address in this second class of Anglicanism 101. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you haven’t already, register below to receive updates and more details.
Anglicanism 101: History
The Anglican Church refers to the catholic church in England. This is more complicated than it sounds. This week, we dive into the history of Christianity on the island we now call England. We will trace this history through the Medieval period and the Reformation. We will end this class with a discussion about Anglicanism today. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you haven’t already, register below to receive updates and more details.
Anglicanism 101: Introduction
What is Anglicanism? This is the most frequently asked question at Mission Saint James. This fall, we are kicking off a 6-week crash course on what the Anglican tradition is, where it came from, and how it helps us follow Jesus. This week’s introductory class will give a broad overview of the Anglican tradition and give newcomers a chance to ask questions. Join us from 5:30-7:00 p.m. To receive updates and more details, register below.
